Here in Spain, there are very few District Nursing Teams and an even smaller Palliative Care Team.  Paul Cunningham Nurses will work in tandem with the existing infrastructure of the National Health, Private Sector and other charities (AECC and MABS are working in collaboration with us) to provide a greatly sought after home nursing service. We offer a combination of support, information and medical experience along with hands-on nurses and carers or as little as a friendly voice and help with everyday problems that may occur when one becomes ill in Spain. We provide medical advice and liase with the Costa Blanca Palliative Care team, which consists of Doctors and Nurses.

At present we cover from Pilar De Horadada up to Alicante on the coast and inland to Orihuela. We are in the process of setting up another office in the Javea area and are asking for nurses and carers in that area to contact us.

The nurses will operate as a combination of what we all understand and know the MacMillan and Marie Curie Nurses do.  Nurses and carers will be provided free of charge (subject to assessment) at the latter stages to patients with a terminal prognosis. This service is not just for cancer patients but anyone at the end stage of their illness for example: stroke/heart disease/motor neurone disease/cronic obstructive pulmonary disease etc.

We also offer a general nursing service for all those who need us for very realistic prices :

  • Assistance with personal hygiene
  • Advice on pain management and symptom control
  • General advice & support for both patients and their families.
  • Post operative care, including wound dressings
  • All patients will receive a detailed primary holistic assessment, to identify care needs.

The Lead Nurse will liase with the Spanish hospitals Community Palliative Care Team and refer patients to them.

Respite Care

We are not able to offer an emergency service, at present, but hopefully in the near future, as the charity expands this will be possible depending on available funds. However during working hours (9am - 9pm) please call the service and we will tell you if a nurse is availble at short notice.  Patients needing urgent attention will need to contact their local ambulance service or Centro de Salud.

There is an "Email the nurse" service for non urgent enquiries. Our pledge is to respond to all emails within 24 hours, however, we expect more often it will be within the same day.

Home Nursing Service

Paul Cunningham Nurses are raising funds to provide care in the community for terminally ill patients.  Nurses and carers are provided free of charge, subject to an assessment, at the latter stages to patients with a terminal prognosis.

Our lead nurse will liaise with the Spanish hospital´s Community Palliative Care Teams.

The charity is also able to offer a very supportive general nursing service for those who need us.  Home visits are made from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and are scheduled according to the priority of needs (other times available by arrangement).
